Feel Confident to Every Jump

Hone the skills that will allow you to recognize and manage many types of distances. This means you'll be able to confidently ride not only the "right" distance, but also make those not-so-perfect ones work out.

Develop Your Eye

Practice specific, hands-on exercises that will help you understand how distances are created, what pace you need to each jump, and how corners, position, line, track, and more directly affect your distances. Through practice, you'll develop the ability to better manage each stride.

Recover Easily From Mistakes on Course

Mistakes happen in riding, but through Missy Clark's 'rules of riding' you'll learn how to recover from bad distances and make the most of the rest of your round, while also learning how to prevent disasters through purposeful riding.

Why this Course?

Every rider who jumps has experienced a 'bad' distance to a fence. Seeing distances consistently on course can be a serious stress point for riders of all levels, and the 'perfect' distance rarely shows up for all riders at every fence. Good news: you absolutely can improve your ability to manage all types of distances and work with what shows up for you on course in a confident way.

In this Masterclass, Missy Clark breaks down 'seeing a distance' into 6 distinct skills. Working on these skills with practice and the right program will help you take the pressure off hunting down the right distance and focus on the tools you know you have to work with.

These 6 skills include:

1) Developing your eye: Learn what it means to develop your eye as a rider, what separates top riders from the rest, and how you can improve and develop your ability to see distances to every jump on course.

2) Rider Positioning: A riders position in the saddle directly influences your ability to recognize and ride good distances.

3) Pace & Adjustability: Adjustability is one of the most crucial skills for both horse and rider to master in order to have options on course and be able to execute any type of distance well.

4) Time & Reacting: Timing is everything when it comes to riding a correct distance, and your reactions are just as important for making the small (or big!) changes necessary to change your approach to the fence, or recover when something goes wrong.

5) Line & Track: Discover how your line and track changes what distances will show up for you, and how well you and your horse are able to tack different challenges on course

6) The Short Distance: Many riders end up chipping or leaving long because they lack the confidence and training needed to execute the shorter distance like a pro.

Missy has developed some of the most successful jumping riders in the world, and now she's passing along her knowledge, theory, and training advice to Masterclass members.

Her course includes a practical, step-by-step, progressive program for you to practice at home. This course is designed to work alongside your trainer's program, or on its own.

Missy Clark's Lesson Plan

Missy explains what 'seeing a distance' really means, why distances matter in every ring, what skills riders need to be able to recognize and ride distances effectively, and troubleshoots common problems.

Learn what it means to develop your eye as a rider, what separates top riders from the rest, and how you can improve and develop your ability to see distances to every jump on course. Work through a simple but highly effective exercise that gets big results for all levels of rider, from brand new to grand prix.

A step-by-step guide to what correct position means for the hunter, jumper, or equitation rider, and how your position directly influences your ability to recognize and ride good distances. You'll learn to identify and fix common mistakes and go in-depth on how they affect your horse and your eye. Practice a gymnastic exercise specifically designed to help you work on your position before, during, and after fences.

Missy explains why adjustability is the most crucial skill for both horse and rider to master in order to have options on course and be able to execute any type of distance well. She walks you through step-by-step how to create an adjustable canter, how to know if you have enough pace, and helps to troubleshoot common problems that riders of all levels encounter. A practical jumping exercise that can be done at any height builds skills and helps you understand how your canter should feel.

Timing is everything when it comes to riding a correct distance, and your reactions are just as important for making the small (or big!) changes necessary to change your approach to the fence, or recover when something goes wrong. Missy teaches you how to develop your timing and how to react correctly in any situation on course. A progressive jumping exercise, which can be modified for any level, helps you hone these skills in both combinations and long rides.

Discover how your line and track changes what distances will show up for you, and how well you and your horse are able to tack different challenges on course. Troubleshoot mistakes you might be making and sharpen your skills and ability with a bending line exercise that is one of Missy's go-to's when training top riders.

Missy believes that a main skill lacking in most junior and amateur riders to day is the ability to ride the short distance well. Many riders end up chipping or leaving long because they lack the confidence and training needed to execute the shorter distance like a pro. Take a deep dive into theory then work through the most challenging exercise in this course, which can be modified for beginners to advanced riders.

Missy reviews real rounds, talking through what each rider does well and how they could improve, and showing how the skills learned in this Masterclass come into play in the show ring.

How to take the lessons that you've learned in this Masterclass and put them into action to get real results at home and in the show ring, and how to plan for continuous growth and improvement.

Missy shares her personal journey, from growing up with a world-class trainer mother, to starting her own barn, to training legendary horses and riders in the equitation and jumper rings.

I’m so happy I found Masterclass!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’m so happy I found Masterclass. I have a great trainer, but I’m always looking to learn more, and these classes have been exactly what I need! I’ve had some problems with confidence and a habit of slowing to a stop at the first jump in a course when I’m showing. Having my trainer and Masterclass is the perfect combination! I’m feeling so much more relaxed and ready to rock my jumper classes!

There's something for everyone!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

While I work regularly with my trainer, working through the Masterclass videos and workbooks has given me new ideas and inspiration to help my horse be the best he can be. The teachers have all explained things at a level where I sit back and think "wow, he/she is right, that totally makes sense" and it was such basic knowledge that we sometimes don't stop to remember in the daily push of training and competing.

When watching Annette's classes I didn't feel that I needed a lot of the confidence building as my horse and I were working as a team, until yesterday, when the course was quite tough and there were a lot of crashes, including us. It was the first time where both he and I got a little shaken up and I realized I needed to go back and revisit some of her tips so I can help us get back to where we have been. That's what I like so much about the Masterclass series - it's all topics, all disciplines, but yet every rider can take something away from them. Maybe not right at that moment, but at some point, there is going to be that scenario where you realize you need and can apply something you learned!

I love these masterclasses.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’m a true adult amateur hunter rider, I work full time as a nurse but my true passion has always been horses, I’m out at the barn almost every day. This is my horse Checklist, a 5 year old Oldenburg/ Holsteiner gelding by checkmate. He has a ton of personality but training him with my coaches help has been so rewarding, and he loves to jump!

I love masterclass, my absolute favourite so far has been Archie Cox, especially as a hunter rider. I love his approaches to each exercise, focusing on improvement, and knowing when to stop once you see improvement, and I love his viewpoints as a hunter rider, judge, and trainer. And I love the fact that he used a young horse in his videos instead of a seasoned hunter.

Learned something from every course.

My name is Mollie and I am a 15 year old British show jumper. I live in Oman with my horse La Paloma. We have just got back to the Sultanate of Oman after 2 months training in Holland. We are jumping 1.20 and last season we won together, the female rider award, junior rider award and won both our classes in the championships.

I have used the Masterclass with Anne Kursinski to improve my communication between my horse and I. I feel that I now have a better understanding of what she understands from my aids and build my riding around that. I have used the masterclass with Annette Paterakis to help me excell under pressure by becoming more confident. Ian Miller has helped me with basic groundwork and lunging of my horse so that we have a good mutal understanding and respect for each other. I am very excited to watch the new Masterclass with Archie Fox specifically to improve my striding.

Thank you so much!

Cool Boy, my 7 year old, and I have a very great relationship. We work in harmony to achieve our best results. Thanks to the Masterclasses we were able to always do our best at every show. I use Annette Paterakis’ course to prepare for upcoming competitions, I’m implementing the things I learned with my 7 year old. The website is super easy to use and the courses are very simple to follow. Thank you so much!

My awareness has greatly improved!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I came to riding late in life, on a dare from a young granddaughter. Turned out I loved it. Started with Western, but I wanted to jump so moved to English. So, about three years riding time. I’ve been riding different lesson horses over the past three years, this is me with Charu, my favorite, and a very affectionate mare, smarter than me too. I have particularly enjoyed Ian’s and Archie’s Masterclasses. They have helped improve my awareness of the horse as well as the arena, and reinforced the basics in a new and helpful way.
