Every rider feels pressure.
For horse shows, you spent 80 hours of practice in the saddle, you took 25 riding lessons, you trailered for 8 hours, you took a week off of work, and you spent hundreds or thousands of dollars to show…. all for 3 minutes in the ring to do your best.
At clinics, you have a new instructor watching you, you're trying challenging new tasks, and everyone is watching.
Even in lessons, we want to perform at our best... when the lessons get harder, the jumps get bigger, or people are watching, it can feel like a lot.
For most of us, when we start a course, a test, or a competition our heads fill with....
Don’t miss the lead change.
Don’t hurt the horse.
Don’t embarrass yourself.
Don’t look stupid...
Pressure affects us all.
First, learn to understand the science behind pressure.
Increased heart rate, racing thoughts, sweating palms, butterflies in your stomach... before you can overcome your body and brain's response to pressure, you have to first understand the science behind it.
Find your optimal pressure zone.
In order to grow and perform at your best, you actually need a certain level of pressure. The key to confidence and success is learning to prepare for the kind of pressure you'll be under so that you can use it to your advantage instead of letting it bring you down.
Create a systemized approach.
Have you ever tried goal setting or visualization just to feel and ride exactly the same or, gasp, even worse? Dr. Jenny thinks most riders have been taught these tools incorrectly. Learn the tools and strategies used by the top riders competing at the highest levels, and how to use them the right way for real results.
